back in my hometown in rural China, we used to grow lots of vegetables in
our yard, we ate them and sometimes sold them. yes, a way of saving money, and
you know how what you eat was grown and you feel safe, don't worry about
pesticide and pollution.
I don't know. What is the reliability of this type of farming? How long
will soil fertility hold out? Will they use fertilizers? Pesticides? Will
fertilizers and pesticides run off into storm drains and pollute oceans and
other bodies of water? How will masses of these large gardens affect local
ecology?
Rotate crops, fertilize w/ organic fertilizer and there shouldn't be a
problem. Consider how much junk fertilizer & pesticide is poured into just
GRASS each year. Affect local ecology? Much better than the run off from grass
lawns. More bio-diversity & oxygen. I see this has a win-win.

People better start thinking
about growing at least some of their own food. With food prices rising and
shortages and food riots occurring globally, it is time to start becoming more
self-sufficient, growing our food locally.
